Wilhelmsthal or Wilhelmstal is a town on the Eckernförde Bay in Schleswig-Holstein , which today belongs entirely to Eckernförde . From 1963 Wilhelmstal developed into a new district of Eckernfördes.

history

Wilhelmsthal used to be a Meierhof of the Marienthal estate (Low German: Mariendaal ) and probably existed before 1802, when the Marienthal estate was spun off from the Windeby estate and thus gained independence.

former Wilhelmsthal manor house

Wilhelmsthal was sold in 1835 and from then on formed its own farm within the Marienthal estate , from September 30, 1928 within the Marienthal community , which has been called Goosefeld since 1973 . Several area shifts between the town of Eckernförde and the Marienthal estate district in the 19th century in both directions - for example, after Wilhelmsthal was sold in 1835, its area increased by 50 tons from previous Eckernförde lands to 146 tons - meant that the authorities' knowledge of their own Area was sometimes restricted.

On the measuring table sheet from 1895 it can be seen that at that time, west of today's Auf der Höhe, fewer areas belonged to Wilhelmsthal and thus to the Marienthal manor district than today Wilhelmsthal is included; in the east, however, there was more space. Wilhelmsthal was incorporated into the town of Eckernförde in 1930; individual limit corrections were made later.

Until the 1960s, the place continued to consist only of the courtyard building and adjoining houses belonging to Hof Wilhelmstal. The exit sign for the town of Eckernförde on the street Auf der Höhe in the direction of Haby (L 42) was also the entrance sign to Wilhelmstal in the 1960s, which continued to read Wilhelmstal - Marienthal - Eckernförde district . Construction work on the construction of a new district began in 1963, initially on the eastern side of Straße Auf der Höhe, with almost exclusively residential development, initially consisting of 23 apartment blocks for Bundeswehr employees, which was subsequently expanded to 64 apartment buildings with 350 apartments. Little by little, more multi-family houses as well as single-family and terraced houses were added in the eastern part. From 1971 on the west side up to Rendsburger Strasse ( Bundesstrasse 203 to Rendsburg ) was followed by development with commercial areas, residential areas, business areas as well as school and sports buildings. The administration building of the Schlei-Ostsee office is also located in the western part of Wilhelmstal.

schools

Gorch Fock School

In Wilhelmstal, lessons began in 1975 in the newly created school center south in the east of the western part of Wilhelmtal. The main building houses the Jungmannschule (grammar school) and the Peter-Ustinov-Schule Eckernförde (integral comprehensive school with upper level), a little apart from that the Gorch-Fock-Schule (now closed, last elementary school, previously elementary and secondary school). The site is completed by sports facilities (halls and squares) and a cafeteria.

Well-known teachers of the three schools are: Wilhelm Lehmann (1882–1968), German writer (Jungmannschule), Karl-Heinz Groth (* 1940), German writer (Gorch-Fock-Schule), Jürgen Anbuhl (* 1940), former member of the Bundestag ( Peter Ustinov School).

Business

Factory premises of SIG Sauer GmbH & Co. KG , previously JP Sauer & Sohn in Eckernförde-Wilhelmstal

The trade in the western part of Wilhelmstal ( industrial area south ) consists of various different businesses in the trade, product manufacture, entertainment (a discotheque ) and service. The best-known producer is the weapons manufacturer SIG Sauer GmbH & Co. KG , a sister company of JP Sauer & Sohn , which previously produced weapons here in the same plant.

In the westernmost part, a shopping center has been created with a number of retail outlets from various industries, petrol stations, supermarkets and discount stores as well as a hardware store. The largest retail operation is a hypermarket of the famila chain Nordost, which opened in 2005 .

Others

An archaeological monument is located in the eastern part of Wilhelmstal (prehistoric burial mound ). The burial mound was built in small steps in the period from approx. 3500 BC. Until approx. 1000 BC During this period, more and more graves were placed on top of the original single grave.

The sculpture Der Fischer am Wilhelmsthaler Ententeich was made by Karlheinz Goedtke .

When the JP Sauer & Sohn weapons factory moved from Eckernförde-Louisenberg to Wilhelmsthal at the beginning of the 1970s, the street name Sauerstraße also moved at the same time ; the former Sauerstraße in Louisenberg has since been called Am Ort .
