The house Wilhelmstraße 68 in Heilbronn is a listed building in the style of historicism in the neo-renaissance variant . The building is also known as the European Court, or Euro for short , after a restaurant that was once there .

history

The three-story building was built in 1898 for the restorer Heinrich Schlette according to plans by the architect Heinrich Stroh . There was a beer and wine cellar in the basement of the house, while a restaurant was on the ground floor. It was taken over by Karl Häberer on January 23, 1930. The restaurant run by Häberer was on June 29, 1945 next to the Palmbräu von Esch, city of Heilbronn under Kaden, Royal under Mayer, Uhlandslinde von Klotzenbücher and slaughterhouse under Schaich, one of six operated restaurants in Heilbronn. Häberer managed the house until the 1960s. In the 1970s and 1980s, when the Heilbronn red light district was being built on Rathenauplatz, the house was used as a breakfast and nightclub under the direction of Manfred Trost. At that time, the Europäische Hof had a reputation as a “ Sankt Pauli -ripe economy”. From the 1990s, the city of Heilbronn bought the former red-light buildings and renovated the entire quarter. The listed building of the Europäische Hof was also renovated by an investor in 2005 and converted into a residential and commercial building. Joachim Hennze from the Lower Monument Protection Authority of the City of Heilbronn says: " The investor has dealt extremely intensively with renovation details, so that a showcase corner is being created again here in the southern part of the city ."

description

The box oriel on the sloping corner of the building was enhanced by handcraft accents in the building sculpture . The building also shows " alternating window roofs " in the neo-renaissance style in the form of segmental arches , simple cornices or a cornice crowned with a canopy .
