William Thayer Tutt

William Thayer Tutt (born March 2, 1912 in Coronado , California , † March 24, 1989 ) was an American ice hockey official .

Career

William Thayer Tutt settled in Colorado Springs and made sure that the first final tournament of the National Collegiate Athletic Association could be held in 1948 . This took place in the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs for the first ten years. In the following years he managed to bring the Soviet national ice hockey team to the United States for the first time in 1959 . He was also jointly responsible for hosting the 1962 Ice Hockey World Championship in Colorado Springs. From 1966 to 1969 he was President of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . From 1972 to 1986 he was President of the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States (AHAUS) . He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1973 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978 . In 1978 he also received the Lester Patrick Trophy for special services to ice hockey in the United States.

In his second marriage, William Thayer Tutt was married to the figure skater Yvonne Sherman . He was responsible for moving the US Figure Skating Federation to Colorado Springs, where several World Championships were held. For this reason he was inducted into the Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
