Kuschinski was born as the son of Friedrich Kuschinski and his wife Josephine. From 1914 to 1923 he attended the "Schule am Roggenfeld" in Uetersen. His father was killed in the First World War in 1916 , so it was not possible for him to learn a trade after finishing school, because he had to work for a farmer to contribute to the family's livelihood. Until 1930 Kuschinski worked for various farmers in the area. In the same year he married Matha Schöllermann, the bog rainwoman, and the marriage had eight children. In the following years he worked in the Uetersen cement factory and was employed as a civil servant at the Uetersen air base. Willy Kuschniski was a multi-talented person and a connoisseur of classical music and founded the " Free Mandolin Club Uetersen " with friends, which performed at many festivities and dance events. In addition to the mandolin , he also played the violin and piano .

In the 1930s, Kuschinski “discovered” his talent for writing poetry and short stories. In the Soviet captivity during the Second World War , it helped him to survive the difficult time. But he was also able to encourage his comrades in captivity by reading his stories. In 1949 Willy Kuschinski returned to his homeland and now had to look after a family of 10. At first he worked for various employers until he found a job in 1955 at the Uetersener Maschinenfabrik Hatlapa .

Kuschinski was not a friend of the public like his friends Ernst Behrens and Rudolf Kinau , who gave lectures and sometimes marketed their books themselves. So he preferred to retire to “sien Dichterstuv” at home to work there. His main creative period was after the Second World War. Kuschinski wrote his stories, poems and radio plays mostly in the Low German language, the spelling of which he had worked out himself. They dealt with what he experienced himself or observed in nature or simply "looked people in the mouth". from 1955 onwards, stories and stories appeared in the Uetersener Nachrichten .

Almost at the same time, the Northwest German Radio became aware of the local poet. On November 18, 1955, his play De Dreeherrenkoppel was broadcast on VHF Nord for the first time . Further radio plays and Low German contributions were broadcast or published on Norddeutscher Rundfunk , Radio Bremen and the Hamburger Abendblatt . In 1971 the NDR television station visited Kuschinski in his study at the Hatlapa company out of a long bond and film recordings were made in the Rosarium Uetersen , which were later broadcast several times.

When Willy R. Kuschinski died in Uetersen in 1980, he left behind a complete oeuvre of more than 100 poems, Low German stories and radio plays.
