The needle in the garbage heap is the 60th episode in the Wilsberg television series . The film is based on the Wilsberg character by Jürgen Kehrer . It was first broadcast on September 8, 2018 on ZDF . Directed by Martin Enlen , the screenplay is by Sönke Lars Neuwöhner and Natalia Geb .

The homeless Elena Warnetzki turns to Wilsberg because she misses her ex-husband, from whom she separated some time ago, but with whom she still feels connected. When his body was found in a waste container by the garbage disposal the next day, the criminal investigation department started an investigation. Since Warnetzki had worked for the waste management company Mynster Myll , his body was found by his colleagues, with whom he was not particularly popular because of his overly correct manner.
Wilsberg smuggled Ekki into the garbage disposal column as an alleged released prisoner in a rehabilitation program, much to the displeasure of Alex, who temporarily works as the company's press spokeswoman, HR officer and legal advisor. Ekki and Wilsberg find out that Klaschka, one of the garbage collectors, is secretly carrying out illegal disposal jobs for good money. Apparently, Warnetzki learned of these practices and was therefore silenced.
The next illegal disposal contract, in which Ekki also takes part, relates to the run-down and now closed paint factory Haussner, from which hazardous waste stored in barrels is to be dumped into a sand pit. Wilsberg finds out that Elena Warnetzki, née Haussner, is the sister of Olivia Haussner, the current managing director of Haussner-Werke, and that her father, whom she believes he has disowned, has still loved her lately.
During the illegal disposal, Ekki finds the body of Elena's father in one of the barrels. Anna, who was informed by Wilsberg about the illegal waste disposal business, is there and arrests Klaschka. She then confronts Olivia, who testifies that although her father died of a heart attack two weeks earlier, the death was veiled to deprive Elena of her inheritance, of which she has no idea. In addition, Micha, who is actually with Olivia, sneaked Elena's trust. When in the end everything is exposed, he sees no other option than to kill Elena and fake suicide, but is stopped by a special task force. Elena's husband was also killed by Micha because he happened to discover his double life.
To Anna's displeasure, Overbeck always assumes mafia-like backgrounds. But after he made friends with Isabell Meinecke, the boss of Mynster Myll, during a night imprisonment, he apologized to her for his initial suspicions. The next day, Meinecke said goodbye on a vacation in Italy, apparently shocked by what was going on in her company. Only the viewer learns from a phone call she makes when she leaves that she actually works for the Mafia and that Klaschka was her assistant.
Trivia
The Running Gag Bielefeld appears twice: In a bar where the garbage collectors meet after work, a road sign with the inscription “Bielefeld 13 km” hangs on the wall as decoration. At the end, Isabell's “godfather” finds out on the phone that Münster is not a good place for their business and that they are better off working in Bielefeld.

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said about this episode: “'The needle in the garbage heap' [...] is an amusing crime comedy with a few allusions and a lot of winking. Overbeck has the best lines of dialogue [...] And for Ekki, a childhood dream is coming true: 'Undercover' he hires at the garbage disposal. "
