Wilson Miranda Lima (born June 26, 1976 in Santarém , Pará ) is a Brazilian journalist , politician and since January 2019 incumbent governor of the state of Amazonas . He is a member of the Partido Social Cristão (PSC).

Life

Lima is the son of José Lins de Lima and Maria Miranda Lima. He grew up in Santarém, taught English for 15 years and then became a journalist and radio and television presenter . In 2006 , at the age of 30, he moved to Manaus in the state of Amazonas to work as a journalist there.

Political career

Wilson Lima began his political career with the Greens in 2012 when he joined the Partido Verde (PV). In 2016 he moved to the then Partido da República (PR), renamed the Partido Liberal (PL) today , but left only a year later to join the Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (MDB). In 2018, however, he changed sides again and joined the right-wing religious, conservative and economically liberal Partido Social Cristão (PSC). This party enabled him to run for the state government.

In the 2018 elections in Brazil , he was elected 49th Governor of the Amazon with 1,033,954 valid votes in the second ballot.
