Willem "Wim" Frederik Schut (born August 21, 1920 in Amsterdam ; † August 15, 2006 in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel , province of South Holland ) was a Dutch politician of the Anti-Revolutionaire Partij (ARP) and later the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ).

Life

After attending the Hogere Burgerschool in Amsterdam , Schut began studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Delft in 1937 , which he completed in December 1942.

In April 1943 he began his professional activity in the urban planning consultancy Instituut Stad en Landschap van Zuid-Holland in Rotterdam , where he was vice director between September 1945 and August 1956 and then director from August 1956 to April 1967. In 1946 he was awarded the Bronze Cross for his services in World War II .

On April 5, 1967, Schut was appointed by Prime Minister Piet de Jong as Minister for Housing and Regional Planning in his cabinet and was a member of this until the end of de Jong's term on July 6, 1971.

On July 17, 1971, Schut was made a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion .

After leaving the government, he returned as director of the Instituut Stad en Landschap van Zuid-Holland and was also since September 1971. Director of this folded Foundation en Instituut city Landschap in Rotterdam. In this function, he was also head of the project to convert the village of Zoetermeer into a satellite town of The Hague from 1974 .

In addition to his professional activity there, between June 1973 and March 1978 Schut was also a member of the Scientific Council for Government Policy, an independent think tank dedicated to the scientific monitoring of the work of the Dutch government. Most recently, he was acting chairman of this body from August 1977 to March 1978. He was also involved as a member of the Abraham Kuyper Foundation.

After his alma mater , the Delft University of Technology, awarded him an honorary doctorate in technical sciences on January 21, 1982 , he was appointed commander of the Order of Orange-Nassau on April 29, 1983 because of his services to Dutch politics .
