The Wimbachgrieshütte is a refuge in 1327 meters of altitude in the town of Ramsau near Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps in the Berchtesgaden National Park . It is located in the Wimbachgries , the rear part of the Wimbach Valley , between Watzmann , Großes Hundstod and Hochkalter . Due to its easy accessibility from Ramsau, the shelter of the Friends of Nature Germany (Munich district) is a popular destination for hikers and day visitors, but also an excellent base for mountaineers who undertake longer tours to the surrounding peaks and to the neighboring huts from here. The famous Watzmann crossing ends here, and the well-known Watzmann circuit runs past the Wimbachgrieshütte. In winter you can get to the hut with snowshoes or touring skis . The largest Berchtesgaden ski tour , the Große Reibn , ends in the Wimbach valley.

history

By government resolution of September 29, 1919, the property of the old hut of the Griesalm was leased for 30 years to the local group of Friends of Nature in Munich, and in 1920 Bad Reichenhaller and Salzburg Friends of Nature repaired it as emergency accommodation. (According to the year in the roof ridge beam , the Windachhütte , which was demolished in 1922 and originally built as a shepherd's hut, has stood here since 1546.) Since the house was no longer able to cope with the increased number of visitors, a completely new building was built between 1922 and 1924: a small, simple mountain accommodation house, the when the Wimbachgrieshütte could be officially opened on Pentecost Sunday , June 8th, 1924. The favorable location between Watzmann and Hochkalter in the easily accessible Gries caused a large number of people early on, so that over the course of time several conversions and enlargements were pending. Most recently, in 2001, the hut was expanded to meet the latest environmental standards with solar systems and a supplementary combined heat and power unit as well as an elaborate sewage treatment plant.
