Winditane

Winditane (also: Ouinditane , Ouinditene , Widiten , Winditan , Winditen , Winnditene ) is a village in the rural community of Tagazar in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located about five kilometers southwest of Balleyara , the capital of the rural municipality of Tagazar, which belongs to the Balleyara department in the Tillabéri region. Winditane is located on the Dallol Bosso dry valley . National road 25 runs through the village .

In the first third of the 18th century, a Tuareg leader named Imerayen, who had killed his cousin in a fight, fled the north and settled in Winditane with his family and some Bella . The surrounding area was populated by Zarma . The village was plundered at the end of the 19th century by the Zarma military leader Issa Korombé from Karma in association with a troop from Mokko .

At the 2012 census, Winditane had 558 residents who lived in 97 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 798 in 93 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 1941 in 254 households.

There is a training center for agroecology in the village .

Winditane is the birthplace of the politician Ikhia Zodi (1919–1996) and the sculptor Issoufou Lankondé (1954–2017).
