Winfried Eberhard

Winfried Eberhard (born March 18, 1941 in Bad Buchau ) is a German historian .

Life

Winfried Eberhard studied history at the Ruhr University Bochum , where he received his doctorate in 1974. In 1982 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on Bohemian history for the subject of medieval history. He then held courses at the Universities of Bochum, Siegen , Hanover and Halle-Wittenberg . From 1992 to 1995 he headed the research focus “History and Culture of East Central Europe” in Berlin . From 1996 to 1999 he worked as a founding director and then until 2007 as director of the Humanities Center (GWZO) “History and Culture of Eastern Europe” in Leipzig . At the same time he taught as a professor for the history of East Central Europe at the University of Leipzig .

His main research interests are the history of the late Middle Ages and the Reformation , especially in Bohemia , the estates and the issues of denomination and tolerance.
