To the north, the Winterberg plateau merges gently into the valleys that emanate from it and the mountain ranges separating these valleys, while to the south it drops steeply by 200 m into the valleys of Orke and Sonneborn. Between the last-mentioned valleys, an approximately 8 km long ridge branches off from the Winterberg plateau to the southeast, which reaches its highest point in the Bollerberg at 757.7 m .
