The Herrloh near Winterberg in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis is 734  m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Winterberg highlands in the Rothaar Mountains .

The Herrloh is located in the Hochsauerland within the north-eastern center of the Rothaargebirge in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park . Its summit rises about 650 m northeast of that of Poppenberg ( 745.8  m ) and 900 m west-northwest of the center of the Winterberg town center.

Natural allocation

The Herrloh belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Harfeld (Winterberger Hochmulde) (333.56).

Rhine-Weser watershed

The elongated Rhine-Weser watershed runs over the Herrloh : While the Büre flows to the west as a tributary of the Nameless , whose water flows through the Neger and Ruhr towards the Rhine , the Helle rises southeast in Winterberg , whose water flows through the Orke, Eder and Fulda into the Weser flows into it, and a little east-southeast of it the Eder tributary Nuhne .

Protected areas

The northern flank of Herrloh falls into the Nameless Valley System nature reserve ( CDDA no. 389837; designated 2008; 89 hectares in size) and to the local fauna, flora and habitat area Bergwiesen near Winterberg (FFH no. 4717-305; 4.87 km²). On the mountain there is an area of ​​the landscape protection area part of the city of Winterberg (CDDA no. 325127; 75.33 km²).

Landwehr in the Asten area

From the Dumel over the Lanfert (=  Landwehr ), the Rauhen Busch ( beech in Winterberg; natural monument ), the Herrloh to the Hubertushof , a part of the Landwehr in the Asten area, which is hardly preserved today, was located . It was a late medieval and early modern fortification in the area around the Kahler Asten , which served especially to protect Winterberg against the valleys of the Neger and Ruhr.

Winter sports and hiking

Part of the Skiliftkarussell Winterberg ski area is located on the Herrloh, with cross-country trails and three ski lifts and associated ski slopes . There is also the St. Georg Schanze (southwest flank) and four plastic covered jumps (northwest flank). The Rothaarsteig, a long-distance hiking trail that runs particularly over the main ridge of the Rothaar Mountains, leads over its southern flank .

Herrloh tunnel

By Herrloh the federal roads runs since its completion in 1995 as part of a common portion 236 and 480 as part of the winter Berger bypass of the 168 m long Herrlohtunnel .
