The Scientific Center for Information Technology Design (ITeG) at the University of Kassel connects working groups from various disciplines (computer science, business informatics, psychology, human-machine systems technology, law, sociology) with the aim of promoting interdisciplinary research activities with a view to IT systems to develop their social embedding and to make them socially desirable in the long term.

history

The ITeG research center for information technology design was founded in 2005 as a joint research association of originally three disciplines (communication technology, technical law and business informatics) at the University of Kassel in order to intensify interdisciplinary research and to help ensure that IT systems find the necessary acceptance, disadvantageous Impacts to be assessed are avoided and desirable application opportunities are opened up.

In 2014 the University of Kassel established the ITeG as a scientific center for information technology design (ITeG). Kurt Geihs is the founding director. The ITeG is thus one of four scientific centers at the University of Kassel that shape the profile of the university.

research

The Scientific Center for Information Technology Design (ITeG) at the University of Kassel is dedicated to the development of information and communication technology from an information and socio-technical perspective. The main idea of the ITeG is to make the information technology of the future socially desirable, taking into account its social embedding.

In a matrix of interlinked disciplines, the center currently brings together the research skills of the following specialist areas:

  • Communication technology (Klaus David, Department of Electrical Engineering / Computer Science)
  • Gender / Diversity in IT Systems (Claude Draude, Department of Electrical Engineering / IT)
  • Distributed Systems ( Kurt Geihs , Department of Electrical Engineering / Computer Science)
  • Public law, IT law and environmental law ( Gerrit Hornung , Department of Economics)
  • Sociological Theory ( Jörn Lamla , Department of Social Sciences)
  • Business Informatics ( Jan Marco Leimeister , Department of Economics)
  • Business Psychology (Sandra Ohly, Department of Economics)
  • Public Law ( Alexander Roßnagel , Department of Economics)
  • Human-machine system technology (Ludger Schmidt, mechanical engineering department)
  • Knowledge processing (Gerd Stumme, Department of Electrical Engineering / Computer Science)
  • Embedded Systems (Bernhard Sick, Department of Electrical Engineering / Computer Science)

In interdisciplinary research projects, research is carried out on the development of IT systems, which are simultaneously checked for their potential acceptance and acceptability, including with a view to usability, security and legal compatibility, trust and later use in a specific social context.

Advisory Board

The ITeG advisory board consists of eight representatives from universities and industry who support the work in the center in an advisory capacity.
