Witten-Hörder Mulde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Witten-Hörder Mulde is a basin- like valley basin near Witten ( Ennepe-Ruhr district ) and the southern Dortmund districts around Hörde in the Westphalian Ruhr area between the peaks of the Westphalian Bay in the north and the Rhenish Slate Mountains in the south. It creates a flat undulating corridor between the Ruhr valley in the southwest and the Emscher in the north.

In terms of natural space, the Mulde (code number 542.4) represents the outermost southwestern foothills of the Hellwegbörden (main unit 542) in the south of the Westphalian Bay ( main unit group 42), which runs through the Dortmunder Ridge (542.20) in the northeast, the Ardey Mountains and its foothills to the left of the Ruhr from east to Is limited to the southwest and by the Stockumer Höhe in the northwest.

Geology and landscape

The Witten-Hörder trough is geologically in Faltenbau of subducting flöz leading carboniferous as Wittener well represented. It has a mild climate and, due to its location on the leeward side of the mountain ranges that adjoin it to the west, there is comparatively little rainfall.

The approximately 100 m high Muldenboden rises gently up to 140 m at the junctions with Ardey and Stockumer Höhe . In the Dortmund area, drainage takes place almost exclusively to the north to the Emscher , which enters the Mulde in the east and flanked it to the north along the southern flank of the Dortmund Ridge . The main traffic lines from the lower Ruhr to Dortmund and Unna follow the Mulde.

Places and districts

In addition to the core town of Witten and the districts of Annen and Rüdinghausen in the northeast, the following districts of Dortmund stretch across the center of the Witten-Hörder Mulde to the northwest:

Other districts are on the outskirts, some with more than half their area, in the hollow.

Geomorphologically, the Mulde continues upstream, to the east, along the valley of the Emscher via Aplerbeck to Sölde .
