Early life and career

Lamanski was a student at a St. Petersburg high school and studied at the University of St. Petersburg , Faculty of History and Philology . The list of Lamanski's works (more than 163 titles) indicates the professor's diverse academic and journalistic activities.

Works

The article The Italian and Slavic nationalities in the political and cultural field made Lamanski famous worldwide. As a philologist, Lamanski pointed out the numerous and often mutually incomprehensible Italian dialects and claimed that the languages ​​of the two most distant Slavic peoples are much closer compared to the Italian dialects. After Ľudovít Štúr and Havlíček and other West Slav representatives of Pan-Slavism , Lamanski expressed the idea of ​​the existence of a unified Slavic people. Lamanski came to the conviction that the Russian language can play the role of a common Slavic language, especially since two thirds of the Slavic population spoke in Russian, it was more or less understandable to all Slavs and because of the extensive literature in Russian.

Lamanski was a supporter of the ideas of the Slavophiles , whereby he regarded the interests of other peoples as indispensable for Russia and championed the imperial ideas of the famous poet Fyodor Ivanovich Tjuttschew .
