Wochern is part of the municipality of Perl in the Merzig-Wadern district ( Saarland ). Together with Tettingen-Butzdorf , the district forms a municipality. Until the end of 1973 Wochern was an independent municipality.
history
The Celtic name of the place was Wochera , which means at the sources . The place is embedded in a side valley sloping into the Moselle valley, surrounded by orchards and forests.
The most remarkable building is the Catholic branch church St. Nicolaus and Bernhard , a small hall building from 1789 with roof turrets , arched rectangular choir with tracery window , 15th century, furnishings from 15th to 18th century.
Wochern is a typical Lorraine farming village that won a gold medal at state level and silver at federal level in the 1987 competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ”.
In the state competition 2006 Our village has a future , Wochern was awarded third place and a silver medal.
As part of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland , the previously independent municipality of Wochern was assigned to the new municipality of Perl on January 1, 1974 together with 13 other municipalities .
