history
The place is probably mentioned for the first time in 893 as Burnacha in a deed of gift from King Arnulf . Between the Middle Ages and the French Revolution, the place belonged to the Remich court , from 1443 it was Burgundian , the next lords were Habsburg , Spain (1555) and the Austrian Netherlands (1714). From 1816 Borg belonged to an independent mayor's office under Prussian administration. Parts of Borg were badly destroyed in the course of World War II, so in 1939 the church tower was blown up so as not to be a target for enemy artillery , and the entire church was demolished the following year. After the end of the war, the church was rebuilt for the third time: today's parish church of St. John the Baptist .
Villa Borg
After archaeological finds between Borg and Oberleuken around 1900 indicated a villa rustica , planned excavations began in 1987. After evaluating and evaluating the excavation findings, it was decided in 1994 to reconstruct the entire historical complex according to the findings, which was completed in 2001. Today the reconstructed villa serves as an open-air museum .
