Wojciech Lipoński
Wojciech Lipoński (born December 16, 1942 in Sosnowiec ) is a Polish Anglicist, historian, sports historian and successful athlete.
Athletic career
Liponski was part of the golden age of the Polish 400 m run. At the 1964 Summer Olympics, he won the bronze medal with the Polish 4 x 400 m relay. In the same year he was part of the season that improved the Polish record to 3: 06.8 min. In 1965 he took part in the European Athletics Cup in the 4 x 400 m relay in Stuttgart. In 1966 he ran his best time of 46.9 seconds.
Scientific career
Liponski's career is closely linked to Poznan , where he did not study as an athlete at the sports college but at the university. Here he successfully completed his MA exam in Polish language and literature in 1967. It helped him that as an Upper Silesian, in addition to Polish, he could speak German from the start and learned English intensively. He was from the Department of Polish-British relations and history made in which he in Polish culture and folklore in 1972 graduated in 1977 with a thesis on the Polish-British cultural relations habilitation was. In 1975/76 he was a one-year scholarship holder at the University of Florida in Gainesville . Since he was not involved in the Communist Party and instead worked on sports and literature as well as a humanistic encyclopedia of sports , he was not dismissed as a former top athlete, but was not promoted despite his habilitation. Only in 1995 did he get a full professorship for British-Polish relations in cultural studies at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan , combined with a professorship at the Sports University in Poznan , the Wykładowcy Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego im. Eugeniusza Piaseckiego for Olympism. In 2012 he retired, but continued his career as a senior professor at the University of Szczecin with the same focus. From 1992 to 2001 he was a regular lecturer at the International Olympic Academy (IOA) in Olympia and has been the IOA's Supervising Professor since then . Since 1987 he has been the editor of Polish-Anglo-Saxon Studies , Poznań, and from 1989 to 2001 he was the responsible member for Eastern Europe of the editorial board of the International Journal of the History of sport.
