Life

Woldemar Schneider from Greiz in Thuringia turned to studying pharmacy , chemistry and food chemistry at the universities of Marburg and Jena after graduating from high school . In 1946 he acquired the license as a pharmacist in 1948 took place in Jena Promotion to Dr. rer. nat.

Schneider held a position as a scientific assistant at the Pharmaceutical Institute of the University of Jena from 1947 , later he changed to the Pharmaceutical Institute of the University of Freiburg in the same position , where he qualified as a professor in 1954 for the subjects of pharmaceutical chemistry and food chemistry. After subsequent visits abroad which it to the Birkbeck College at the University of London and at the University Chemical Laboratory of the University of Cambridge led it in 1957 to the University of Karlsruhe umhabilitiert, where he received a diet lectureship for the Pharmacy and the Carl Mannich Research grant from the German Pharmaceutical Society , in 1960 he was appointed adjunct professor . In 1967 he was the successor of the late Kurt Walter Merz of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry transferred at the Pharmaceutical Institute of the University of Freiburg, 1987, he was given emeritus status .

In his research activities he devoted himself in particular to the chemistry of alkaloids of the delphinium and the deadly nightshade . In addition, his therapeutic interest prompted him to undertake extensive systematic studies on quinoline , isoquinoline , tropane and indole alkaloids , which resulted in structural- activity relationship studies on morphine antagonists and anti-malarial drugs.
