Wolf Freiherr von Hornstein

Wolf Freiherr von Hornstein (* 1918 in Frankfurt am Main ; † April 14, 2008 ) was a German publisher , editor and cook .

Life

Initially, Wolf von Hornstein was a publisher and editor of specialist magazines for viticulture, beverage technology and horticulture. In 1968 he acquired the former pastorate in Süderende on Föhr and expanded it into a small country hotel with a restaurant called "Altes Pastorat". It was later added to Relais & Châteaux . In 1981 he was awarded one star by the Michelin Guide for his culinary achievements, by the Varta Guide with a chef's hat, and by the Schlemmer Atlas with four cooking spoons. The Gault Millau rated him with two toques and 16 points. In 1986 he sold his property and restaurant for health reasons.

Since 1981 he has published the Hornstein Ranking , a brochure of the best restaurants and hotels in Germany , Austria , South Tyrol and Europe .

In 1987 he founded the food culture association Les Amis de l 'Art de Vivre . This is an association of top chefs and hosts who maintain a fine way of life and dedicate themselves to table, table and wine culture.
