Subjects / subjects

Spemann's artistic work includes "sculptures made from various materials (...) since the 1970s, objects with a predominantly socio-critical and political background". These include, for example, the work Auf Messers Schneide , with which he took a position in 1988 against "the trivialization of nuclear power". Spemann often processes "surprising found objects and material combinations that make the work so fascinating or irritate one's own perception."

Shapes and materials

Most of Wolf Spemann's sculptural works deal with the human theme ; the basic forms of circle , wheel and sphere take up topics such as " couple relationships , movement and death ", whereby "the sensual , the haptic " always plays a central role. Spemann works with the materials stone, metal, wood, ceramic , natural material, plastic and bronze .

interpretation

Spemann's sculptures live from deduction , which is achieved through " stylizations " and through a " representation reduced to a symbol ", which already characterized the formal language of his teachers. In this way Spemann creates "timeless symbols of the complex interrelationships of being."

Spemann's work has so far been recognized in around 54 solo exhibitions and numerous exhibition participations.
