Wolfgang A. Bienert

Wolfgang Artur Bienert (born September 24, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Wolfgang Bienert studied Protestant theology from 1959 to 1963 in Göttingen and at the Church University in Berlin . In 1963 he passed the first theological exam at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover . He then completed his vicariate in Caracas / Venezuela and Hildesheim and completed it in 1967 with the second theological exam.

From 1967 to 1977 Bienert was a research assistant and assistant at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität under Wilhelm Schneemelcher in the subject of church history (patristic) . In 1970 he was promoted to Dr. theol. did his doctorate and habilitation in 1977 in the subject of church history in Bonn .

1977/1978 Bienert was pastor at Sankt Urbani in Munster, from 1977 to 1983 lecturer for church history at the mission seminary in Hermannsburg . In 1979 he received his habilitation at the University of Göttingen . In 1983 he accepted a position as professor for the subject of church history (patristic) at the Philipps University of Marburg. In 1990 he turned down a professorship for the same subject at the Ruhr University Bochum .

Focus

In Wolfgang Bienert's work, patristicism comes first, especially the Alexandrian tradition ( Origen , Dionysius , Athanasios , Didymos ), the emergence of the ancient church and questions of orthodoxy and heresy . From this topos he developed ecumenical priorities, such as B. the relationship between Protestantism and Orthodoxy as well as Luther's relationship to the early church tradition.
