Wolfgang Brekle

Wolfgang Brekle (born July 2, 1930 in Leipzig ; † September 7, 2019 ) was a German specialist in German .

Career

Wolfgang Brekle attended the Humboldt School in Leipzig until he graduated from high school. Since it was not possible for him to start studying in the post-war period due to political problems, but there were no teachers, he was able to become a village school teacher. After six years of activity, he succeeded in taking up the desired course in German , history and pedagogy at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig with the aim of becoming a high school teacher. From 1955 to 1960 he studied with Hermann August Korff , Theodor Frings , Hans Mayer , Rudolf Große and the philosopher Ernst Bloch, among others .

After an assistantship at the University of Leipzig (with Hans Mayer), Brekle became an assistant at the Leipzig University of Education Clara Zetkin in the field of methodology for the subject of German language and literature, lecturer in 1962. At the same time, he completed his dissertation on the subject of Humboldt University” in Berlin. The anti-fascist literary work of German storytellers in the years 1933–1945 ” . In the following years Brekle received his doctorate and habilitation (1982) at the University of Education in Leipzig, and was appointed full professor on September 1, 1988 .

After the political change in the GDR, Brekle , who was considered a political dissident, was first prorector and then from 1991 to 1992, under confirmation from the Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art, rector of the University of Education until it was merged with the University of Leipzig. He then taught German as a professor of didactics at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Leipzig until he retired in 1995.

Pedagogical and literary work

Brekel's activities as a didactic specialist did not focus exclusively, but primarily on preparing students as German teachers. For this he has written a large number of textbooks; so in the ranks of teaching aids for German as a mother tongue published by Volk u. Know Berlin . In addition, Brekle also published his research results, for example in 1985 on the basis of his dissertation "Writers in the anti-fascist resistance 1933–1945 in Germany" . He had already written an article on this subject in 1970 in the magazine “ Weimar Contributions ” with the title “Antifascist Literature in Germany 1933–1945” . The publications on this subject were noted by writers and politicians in many countries, such as the USA, France, Sweden, the Soviet Union, Poland and Czechoslovakia. His research can be found in publications by Siegfried Scheibe, Leonore Krenzlin , Gudrun Klatt, Ralf Schnell and Wilhelm Emrich in the FRG .

Approximately 100 articles on the methodology of German teaching in the GDR (literature lessons, grammar lessons, orthography lessons, expression lessons, etc.) were published by Brekle in specialist didactic journals, especially in the magazine "Deutschunterricht", between 1963 and 1989.

The effect of Brekle's activity in the assessment of dissertations in the field of didactics and pedagogy as well as in the political problems in the GDR through contributions to the change in the Leipzig University of Education from autumn 1989, when Brekle first became prorector and then rector , was of a completely different nature .

After retiring, Wolfgang Brekle took on new responsibilities. As deputy chairman of the “ Akademie Rosenhof e. V. ”In Weimar from 1994 to 2013 he supported the education and training of those interested in social science and the like. a. m.

From 2004 he initiated the book series “Bertuch's World Literature for Young Readers” in the Bertuch-Verlag Weimar .

Brekle was also a co-founder of the Society of Friends of the Ephraim Carlebach Foundation , which looks after the German-Jewish situation in Leipzig. In this context, he published the article " On the theory and practice of literary teaching at the Higher Israelite School in Leipzig" .

As a local chronicler in his new place of residence Battaune , Brekle wrote an extensive book in 2014 with the collaboration of long-established residents and the designer Kathleen Weinert.

In recent years, Brekle has published several articles on the Internet pages published by his wife Ursula Brekle as part of the Bertuch publishing house in Weimar.
