Wolfgang Christ (born June 10, 1951 in Engers ) is a German architect and urban planner and professor of design and urban development at the Bauhaus University in Weimar .

Life

Wolfgang Christ studied architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt . After completing his studies, he went into business for himself, worked a. a. with Gerhard Auer , studying 1980-1983 Philosophy at the Technical University of Darmstadt in Gernot Böhme . From 1983 to 1988 Wolfgang Christ worked as a research assistant at the city department in the architecture faculty of the Technical University of Darmstadt with Thomas Sieverts . In 1989 he founded his planning office MEDIASTADT - urban strategies . Wolfgang Christ taught design and urban planning at the Bauhaus University Weimar from 1993 to 2013. In 1999, together with Dieter Hassenpflug, he founded the postgraduate course in European Urban Studies . In 2001 he was doing research at the University of California, Los Angeles . From 2006 to 2008 he was director of the Institute for European Urban Studies. In 2008 he founded the Urban INDEX Institut GmbH in Darmstadt for the analysis and certification of urban quality.

Wolfgang Christ works as a consultant in advisory boards and commissions. a. in the architecture committee of the cultural group of the German economy in the BDI eV, urban development and Olympic council of the city of Leipzig , commission art and landscape and in the Kuratorium Kulturlandschaft Goitzsche of the EXPO 2000 Saxony-Anhalt, commission memorandum for a national urban development policy in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development .

Wolfgang Christ defines urban planning as creative urban planning . Construction and planning projects, research, teaching, publications and lectures by Wolfgang Christ revolve around the architectural, urban and urban dimension of an architectural culture of everyday life . For Christ, the corresponding spaces and places in the Zwischenstadt , the industrial landscape, the urban region, in the networks and nodes of the mobility infrastructure and the consumer worlds are an integral part of the European city type in the 21st century.
