Athletic career

Färber comes from the youth of TSG Giengen , for whom he appeared in the Württemberg Association League. In 1982 he moved as a substitute goalkeeper from Walter Modick to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg for SSV Ulm 1846. Without playing under coach Paul Sauter , he rose with the team at the end of the 1982/83 season in the 2nd Bundesliga. There he represented the competitor sporadically in the second division season 1983/84 , so that he came to a total of eight second division games. In the summer there was a change of coach, Hannes Baldauf relied on Färber's services. However, the "sparrows" slipped into the relegation battle and were soon at the bottom of the table. At the beginning of December, Fritz Fuchs took over the coaching position and then rotated to the goalkeeper position, Joachim Jüriens , brought by Eintracht Frankfurt , became the new “number 1”. After being sent off in mid-April, he had to pause in the 1-0 home defeat against KSV Hessen Kassel , Färber seized the chance and was a regular goalkeeper again until the end of the season.

After the relegation of SSV Ulm in 1846 there was a change in personnel, Thomas Richter and Karsten Krannich were the new goalkeeper duo. Färber joined the SpVgg Au / Iller in the Württemberg Association League. In 1986 he moved to league competitor SC Geislingen , with whom he rose to the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga under coach Erich Schmeil the following summer. Until 1990 he played third class for the club before he joined the Stuttgarter Kickers , where he played for the reserve team in the Württemberg Association League. At the side of young players like Ralf Becker , Markus Lösch and Marc Arnold , he rose to the league at the end of the season after FC Emmendingen was beaten twice in the promotion games . Here the team had almost no chance and only won five of the 34 season games, so that they were directly relegated as the bottom of the table. He then played one more season for SC Geislingen in the Oberliga, before he was ousted by Thorsten Walther after 23 third division games and ended his career.

Later Färber worked again for SSV Ulm in 1846, where he contributed to qualification for the Regionalliga Süd under Paul Sauter in the 2007/08 season as goalkeeping coach of, among others, Holger Betz .
