Holger Betz (born May 16, 1978 in Illertissen ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .
career
In 1993, Betz moved as a youth player from the Illertiss district club SV Tiefenbach to SSV Ulm 1846 . There he was second goalkeeper behind Philipp Laux after promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1998 . When he left the club after the Bundesliga relegation in 2000, Betz remained a substitute because the Swiss Andreas Hilfiker was signed. Betz made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga on April 29, 2001 (31st matchday) in the game against LR Ahlen , which was won 2-0. In total, he played 3 second division games.
Even after the sparrows were forced to relegate to the fifth-class association league Württemberg in 2001, he remained loyal to the club and was able to celebrate promotion to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 2002 . Apart from brief interruptions, he has been the goalkeeper of the former Bundesliga club since 2001. In 2006 and 2007 he was able to reach the final of the WFV Cup with the club , but lost both times.
From 2008 he played with Ulm in the Regionalliga Süd . After the opening of insolvency proceedings against the club, Holger Betz and eight other Ulm players were released in January 2011 due to austerity measures. In March 2011 it was reactivated. The club was already relegated from the regional league, but the remaining games of the season were still played as mandatory friendship games. In the following years, Betz achieved promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest twice with SSV Ulm. He ended his career on May 12, 2018.
Because of a slip of the tongue of the stadium announcer in the Ulm Danube Stadium , who introduced him as "Harald" Betz, he has the nickname "Harry" with some followers .
