Wolfgang Georg Friedrich of Pfalz-Neuburg
Wolfgang Georg Friedrich Franz von Pfalz-Neuburg (born June 5, 1659 in Düsseldorf , † June 4, 1683 in Wiener Neustadt ) was the fifth child and the second son of Duke Philipp Wilhelm von Pfalz-Neuburg .
Since his older brother Johann Wilhelm was intended to succeed his father in all secular offices, he was designated for the clergy. On December 22nd, 1674, with papal approval , he received a cathedral priest in Münster , in whose possession he remained even after his appointment as master of the German Order. He was appointed auxiliary bishop in Cologne and was intended as prince-bishop of Breslau . However, he died before the election, coming from an audience of the Pope in Rome, at the age of 24 in Wiener Neustadt.
He was buried in the court church in Neuburg an der Donau . A tombstone in the St. George's Cathedral in Wiener Neustadt commemorates him. In his place, his younger brother Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg was appointed Prince-Bishop of Breslau.
Wolfgang Georg Friedrich was a brother of the Palatinate Electors Johann Wilhelm (1658–1716) and Karl III. Philipp (1661–1742), as well as Archbishop of Trier and Mainz, Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg (1664–1732) and the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg, Alexander Sigismund von Pfalz-Neuburg (1663–1737). His eldest sister Eleonore (1655–1720) was the wife of Emperor Leopold I and the mother of the later Emperors Joseph I and Charles VI. Other sisters became queens of Spain and Portugal.
