Wolfgang Kraus (writer)

Wolfgang Kraus (born January 13, 1924 in Vienna ; † September 19, 1998 in Lienz , East Tyrol) was an Austrian author, presenter, literary critic and essayist , who was also the founder, longtime director and, since 1994, honorary chairman of the Austrian Society for Literature emerged.

Life

After studying German , Wolfgang Kraus worked as a freelance (professional) writer and editor for various publishers, press and radio editors .

In 1961 he was the founder and until 1994 head of the Austrian Society for Literature . From 1975–1981 he headed the cultural contact point of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.

Wolfgang Kraus designed numerous literary programs for ORF . He emerged as editor with anthologies by Oscar Wilde , Friedrich Nietzsche and Novalis, among others . In the last years of his life he edited, among other things, the annual volumes of the Austrian Franz Kafka Society and developed markings on a new humanism that appeared posthumously.

He received an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 63).
