Wolfgang Krueger (politician)

Wolfgang Krueger (born December 5, 1937 in Berlin ; † October 14, 2018 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1980 to 1997 he was district councilor and from 1991 also district mayor of Berlin's Tempelhof district .

Early years

Wolfgang Krueger was, like his father, a trained carpenter and carpenter and moved with his parents shortly after the Second World War in the Berlin district of Lichtenrade , where his father ran a small company. He gained on the night school , the High School and then studied at the National School of Civil Engineering and at the Technical University of Berlin .

He later worked as site manager in the Reichstag building and at the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation .

Political career

Krueger was already involved in the Junge Union and joined the Berlin CDU district association Tempelhof in 1957. On March 12, 1967, he moved into the district assembly of Berlin-Tempelhof for the first time . In 1980 he was elected to the district councilor for health, a year later he took over the building department.

In 1991, Krueger was finally elected as the successor to Siegmund Jaroch as the new district mayor of Berlin-Tempelhof. He was confirmed in this office in 1995. He resigned in 1997 due to serious heart surgery . He was followed by the CDU politician Dieter Hapel .

Within his party, Krueger exercised the office of district chairman of the CDU Tempelhof from 1987 to 1993. In addition, he was chairman for several years, most recently honorary chairman of the CDU Lichtenrade.

In 2017 he celebrated his 60-year membership in the CDU.

Social work

Krueger was involved in numerous associations . He was honorary chairman of the action group Bahnhofstraße and founding member as well as deputy chairman of the citizens' initiative Dresdner Bahn from 1997 to 2017 , which advocates a tunnel solution for the planned route in Lichtenrade.

Private

On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the CDU parliamentary group of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg District Assembly honored Krueger with a reception in January 2018, which was also attended by the former mayor Eberhard Diepgen .

Wolfgang Krueger was married and lived with his wife in Lichtenrade. He died after a serious illness in October 2018 at the age of 80.

On November 9, 2018, the Lichtenrade Catholic Salvator Community, in which Krueger has been involved since 1947, honored the former mayor with a requiem . Krueger finally found his final resting place on November 16, 2018 in the Lichtenrade cemetery .

Krueger should not be confused with the former mayor of the Berlin district of Kreuzberg , Wolfgang Krüger, who died in 1995 .

Honors

The main hall of the Lichtenrade community center, which was designed by Krueger as a building city councilor and inaugurated by him as district mayor, has been called Wolfgang-Krueger-Saal since November 21, 2019 .

In June 1998, an oil painting by Krueger was unveiled in the mayor's gallery of the Tempelhof town hall .
