Wolfgang Nehring (literary scholar)
Wolfgang Nehring (born November 15, 1938 in Opole ; † January 3, 2013 ) was a German literary scholar .
Life
His parents were the lawyer Joachim Nehring and the high school teacher Therese, geb. Ulmer. Wolfgang Nehring attended elementary school in Neuhaus / Elbe and grammar school in Duisburg .
He studied German literature, philosophy and classical philology at the universities of Bonn , Tübingen and Vienna . In 1965 he received his doctorate in Bonn. He then spent a year as a visiting professor at Boston College . Since 1967 he has been professor of literary studies at the Department of Germanic Languages at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
His research encompassed German literature from the late 18th century to the present day, with a special focus on German Romanticism, early modernism, and Austrian literature.
