Wolfgang Nehring (literary scholar)

Wolfgang Nehring (born November 15, 1938 in Opole ; † January 3, 2013 ) was a German literary scholar .

Life

His parents were the lawyer Joachim Nehring and the high school teacher Therese, geb. Ulmer. Wolfgang Nehring attended elementary school in Neuhaus / Elbe and grammar school in Duisburg .

He studied German literature, philosophy and classical philology at the universities of Bonn , Tübingen and Vienna . In 1965 he received his doctorate in Bonn. He then spent a year as a visiting professor at Boston College . Since 1967 he has been professor of literary studies at the Department of Germanic Languages ​​at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

His research encompassed German literature from the late 18th century to the present day, with a special focus on German Romanticism, early modernism, and Austrian literature.
