Wolfgang Stock (born November 21, 1943 in Münsingen ; † April 10, 2012 in Munich ) was a German surgeon and head of the plastic surgery department at the University of Munich Hospital .

biography

Wolfgang Stock was born as the son of the country doctor and sculptor Wolfgang Stock (1913–1997) and his wife Irma Alicia. Born Hoerig. His grandfather was the well-known ophthalmologist Wolfgang Stock . After attending school and high school in Münsingen he studied at the universities of Tübingen , Innsbruck and Munich .

In 1971 he began his specialist training in surgery with G. Maurer at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) . He completed his specialist training in plastic surgery in Glasgow with Ian A. McGregor . In 1975/76 Edgar Biemer , Wolfgang Duspiva and Wolfgang Stock developed the first microsurgical operations and replantations of the hands. From 1976 Wolfgang Stock worked in the Plastic Surgery Clinic on the right of the Isar with Ursula Schmidt-Tintemann .

Wolfgang Stock began to replant amputated body parts with Schmidt-Tintemann, Edgar Biemer and others in 1976. Between 1979 and 1986 he wrote about 30 publications on replanted thumbs and fingers, upper arm flap , osteocutaneous forearm flap and the reconstruction of the lower jaw. His scientific publications appeared in the "Journal of Microsurgery", the "Zeitschrift für Unfallheilkunde", in the "Chirurg" and others. His path led him to J. Manninger at Semmelweis University in Budapest, where he taught his colleagues hand surgery , microsurgery and replantation surgery . Until 1996 he also taught this in various places in Mexico. The other publications and the later habilitation of Wolfgang Stock were accompanied by his wife Eva and their three children: Simone, Julian and Luisa. In 1987 he moved from TUM to Leonhard Schweiberer at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he was head of the plastic surgery department in Pettenkoferstraße .

Wolfgang Stock has made a special contribution to the reconstruction of the head and face area, microvascular iliac crest transplants or tibia or fibula transplants from the vascular periosteal tube . He was involved in a total of 53 publications. From 1991, Wolfgang Stock accompanied surgery teams from Interplast-Germany to Korea , Sri Lanka , Vietnam , Ethiopia and Paraguay .
