from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang VIII. Chamberlain of Worms , called von Herrnsheim (* 1522 ; † May 2, 1576 in Worms ), was a high official in the Electorate of Mainz and in the Hochstift Speyer . He came from a sideline of the von Dalberg family .

origin

Wolfgang VIII was a son of Wolfgang VII treasurer of Worms, called zu Herrnsheim (* 1484/1485; † February 18, 1527). Herrnsheim refers to Herrnsheim Castle , which today is in the Worms-Herrnsheim district of Worms . Before February 21, 1516, Wolfgang VII. Lorichia, daughter of Johann von Kronberg and Klara von Helmstatt , married the mother of Wolfgang VIII. He still had two sisters. For the rest of the relationship see: here .

Marriages

Wolfgang VIII was married several times:

  • His first marriage was in 1546 with Margareta (* 1529 - 25 March 1547), daughter of Bernhard von Rechberg . She was buried in St. Peter's Church in Herrnsheim (today: Worms ). The grave slab is preserved there.
  • He entered into a second marriage 17 years later, on October 23, 1564, with Barbara, daughter of Bernhard von Angelach and Magdalena von Sternenfels . The marriage lasted only a few weeks.
  • Just nine months later, on July 19, 1565, Wolfgang VIII concluded a third marriage, with Elisabeth († May 18, 1594), daughter of Ulrich Ulner von Dieburg and Margareta Kämmerer von Worms . Elisabeth was also buried in St. Peter in Herrnsheim. For Elisabeth it was the fourth and last of her marriages. She was previously married to:
  1. Johann XII. von Löwenstein († September 19, 1557).
  2. Georg von Dalberg (* 1509 or 1510; † May 2, 1561), buried in St. Peter in Herrnsheim. Georg was an uncle of Wolfgang VIII.
  3. Johann Speth von Schülzburg .

children

Wolfgang VIII had a daughter, Margareta. It is not certain which of Wolfgang VIII's three marriages she came from. Most likely this is the first marriage. This is supported by her name, the same as the presumed mother, and the fact that the second marriage, to which Margaret was assigned in the literature, was far too short to allow legitimate descendants to emerge from it. Margarete married Martin von Stotzingen . She died on November 12, 1578 and was also buried in St. Peter in Herrnsheim.

Act

In addition to the family property in Herrnsheim, Wolfgang VIII also managed the property that belonged to Kropsburg . He resisted efforts to introduce the Reformation in his domain . Wolfgang VIII. Was mayor of Oppenheim in 1564 and in 1565 was electoral Mainz councilor and later also bailiff in Dieburg and court master in Udenheim . In 1553 he became Vogt of Bruchrhein and in 1561 councilor of the Bishop of Speyer .

death

Wolfgang VIII died on May 2, 1576 and was also buried in St. Peter in Herrnsheim.
