Wolfgang Vogt (laboratory doctor)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wolfgang Vogt (born August 14, 1942 in Munich ) is a German doctor for laboratory medicine , clinical chemist and former university professor.

Career

After high school and military service in the field of communications technology , Wolfgang Vogt studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (LMU) from 1963 to 1968 . In 1970 he received his medical license . From 1970 to 1974 he was involved in an IT project for the Federal Ministry of Education and Science (data acquisition and processing in the clinical-chemical laboratory) at the Clinical-Chemical Institute of the Harlaching Clinic under Maximilian Knedel . Then until 1985 Vogt worked at the Institute for Clinical Chemistry at the Großhadern Clinic of the LMU Munich under Maximilian Knedel, from 1977 as senior physician, from 1980 as professor for clinical chemistry. From 1986 until his retirement in 2009 he was director of the Institute for Laboratory Medicine of the German Heart Center Munich of the Free State of Bavaria - Clinic at the Technical University of Munich.

Scientific activity

In 1971 he received his doctorate (“The quantitative detection of peptides , especially hypertensin , by coupling with diazonium salts ”), and in 1977 the habilitation (“ Steroid - phosphinic acid ester : a new class of derivatives for the selective, gas chromatographic determination of monohydroxysteroids”).

The main topics of his scientific work under the motto "Separate and Recognize" were ultra trace analysis with gas chromatography , mass spectrometry , HPLC and vanadium determination in the ultra trace range with electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry as well as cluster analysis and computer simulation . Vogt developed the temperature-programmed injector for capillary gas chromatography ( cold injection system ), which lowered the overall detection limit of a method by more than two powers of ten and reduced discrimination. For the first time he described phosphorus-containing derivatives for the extremely sensitive detection of hydroxy compounds with the alkali flame ionization detector (down to the atto-mol range, 10 −18 ).

The work was reflected in eleven books and 250 magazine and book articles.

Activities in professional societies

From 1988 to 1990 Wolfgang Vogt was a co-opted board member of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry (DGKC), from 1998 to 2003 a member of the Presidium of the German Society for Laboratory Medicine (DGLM), from 2000 onwards as its President-elect. After the merger of the two specialist societies in 2003, he was secretary of the new, unified German Society for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (DGKL) from 2003 to 2007 .

Activities in committees

Fee schedule

From 1988 to 2000 he was an expert for the fee schedule for doctors (including the new version of Part M of the 1996 schedule) at the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, then at the Federal Ministry of Health.

Quality assurance and business excellence

From 2001 to 2014 he was Chairman of the Advisory Board of the German Medical Association (BÄK) for the Guideline for Quality Assurance in Medical Laboratory Examinations (Rili-BÄK), and from 2009 to 2015 he was one of the two representatives of the German Medical Association in the Federal Gene Diagnostics Commission.

From 2000 to 2008 he was a member of the advisory board of the German EFQM Center at the German Society for Quality (DGQ), from 2000 to 2012 he was a member of the jury of the Ludwig Erhard Prize (German Excellence Prize), from 2006 as its chairman .

In 1993 he and six other colleagues founded the medical quality association INQUAM.eV (Institute for Quality Management in Medical Laboratories) and was its chairman for many years.

From 1991 to 2009 he was chairman of the “Laboratory Management” working group of the relevant German-speaking scientific societies (DGKL, ÖGKC, ÖGLM, SGKC) and a member of other commissions of the specialist societies (e.g. training commission).

Teaching

Vogt was an expert at the Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examination Questions (IMPP) for clinical chemistry, pathobiochemistry and internal medicine for 20 years .
