Wolfgang Wolf (* in the 20th century) is a former German automobile racing driver .

Career

Wolfgang Wolf began his motorsport career in touring car racing in 1970 . In that year and the following, he competed in an Opel Kadett at a racing event for Opel vehicles on the Nürburgring . In the 1971 race he was able to place first place in group T1.15.

In 1975 he started together with Willi Bergmeister in an NSU 1200 TT in the 1st division of the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) at the 6-hour race on the Nürburgring and achieved fourth place. In 1977 he drove a VW Scirocco again with Paul Wunsch at the touring car Grand Prix in the ETCC - but could not finish the race. A year later, he and Manfred Mohr finished fourth in an Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint in the 1st division at the ETCC race in Zolder. In 1980 he started together with Fred Rosterg in an Audi 80 GTE in three races in the 2nd division of the ETCC. In the touring car Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, both finished 13th.

From 1976 to 1981 he competed in the 2nd division of the German Racing Championship (DRM). In the first year he drove a VW Scirocco for the Spiess-Tuning team and achieved second place in the race in Kassel-Calden . In 1977 he drove a Fiat X1 / 9 and in 1978 he started the racing series with a Ford Escort II RS from Zakspeed and a BMW 320 from BMW-Faltz-Essen . At the race in Mainz-Finthen in 1978 he was able to finish second again. That year he achieved his best overall DRM result in his career with 15th place. In 1979 and 1980 he only drove one race in the DRM and was able to drive into the top ten places. In 1981 he again competed for a full season in an Audi 80 Coupé GT 5S for Kilian-Tuning and ended up 18th in the annual ranking.

When the DRM regulations were changed, Wolf moved to Division 2 of the German Automobile Racing Trophy and competed there in 1982 and 1983 with the Audi 80 Coupé GT 5S. There he was able to place third in three races.

Wolfgang Wolf competed in several endurance races in the sports car world championship between 1977 and 1979 . In the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in 1977 , he and Bernd Renneisen finished 30th in a VW Golf . A year later, he and Klaus Breitenbach could not finish the race at the Nürburgring . At the 6-hour race in Misano , he finished fifth together with Dieter Quester in a Group 5 BMW 320. He drove his last World Championship race in 1979 on the Nürburgring, which he and Heinz Gilges could not finish.

In his driving career, he contested a 24-hour race in 1978 at Spa-Francorchamps . In this non-championship race, he and his driver colleagues from the KWS Euro-Motor team achieved group victory in Group 1 2.5 and sixth place in the overall standings.

Wolfgang Wolf competed in the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup from 1986 to 1989 . There he was able to achieve his best placement in this brand championship in 1988 with fourth place. Then he ended his active motorsport career.
