Wolfram Engels (born August 15, 1933 in Cologne , † April 30, 1995 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) was a German economist and journalist .

life and work

Wolfram Engels grew up in the Black Forest and attended high school in Freudenstadt , later in Stuttgart , where he graduated from high school in 1953. After graduating from high school, he completed a commercial apprenticeship in Bremen and then studied business administration in Hamburg, Cologne and New York. In 1959 he passed the examination to become a business graduate in Cologne . In 1961, Engels received a doctorate degree from Erich Gutenberg in Cologne on the subject of "Business valuation theory in the light of decision theory" "summa cum laude". rer. pole. PhD. He then worked for three years in the textile industry in Mönchengladbach . He completed his habilitation in 1968 with Wolfgang Stützel at the University of Saarbrücken.

From 1968 until his death, Engels was a full professor of business administration and banking at the University of Frankfurt am Main . He was the scientific director of the Society and Enterprise Foundation in Frankfurt and worked primarily in the field of capital market and organizational theory.

The modern meaning of the term “ Bürgergeld ” was introduced in 1974 by Engels with Joachim Mitschke and Bernd Starkloff as part of the citizenship tax concept.

He belonged to the CDU and ran for his party in 1972 in vain for a Bundestag mandate . At the beginning of 1974 at Frankfurt University he was at the center of violent disputes with left-wing student groups over university regulations. Together with Wolfgang Stützel, he participated in the 1976 corporate tax reform.

Engels was also the publisher of Wirtschaftswoche . He was also known for his weekly column in Wirtschaftswoche. He was also the founder of the " Kronberger Kreis " and co-founder of the Frankfurt Institute / predecessor of the Market Economy Foundation .
