Wolverine (cartoon character)
Wolverine ( English : wolverine ) is a cartoon character from the American Marvel publisher . It is a superhero who mostly appears as a member of the X-Men troop . Wolverine is also part of a redesign of the superhero team The Avengers and protagonist of their own comic series named after him.
The figure was created by the authors Len Wein , Roy Thomas and the draftsman John Romita senior as well as with the artistic help of the Hulk illustrator Herb Trimpe . Wolverine first appeared on the last page of the Marvel comic book Incredible Hulk # 180 in October 1974 .

Wolverine is a mutant with an increased regenerative ability that heals any injury, including broken bones and lost claws, and stops aging, with refined senses, endurance and agility, as well as superhuman strength and reflexes. The three bony outgrowths, each about 30 centimeters long, which he can extend from the back of each hand, are also manifestations of his mutation. As part of a military project called Weapon-X , Wolverine's entire skeleton, including three extendable blades on each hand, was coated with the almost indestructible alloy adamantium . His real name is James Howlett, he calls himself Logan and chose as superhero name Wolverine , dt .: wolverine , a predator of the family of martens , which is known for its toughness, speed and aggressiveness. The Canadian wolverine can even compete with grizzlies and cougars (Ultimate Wolverine vs. HULK) despite its far smaller size.
Wolverine's archenemy is Sabretooth , who has been tracking Logan since he killed Sabretooth's brother Saul for treason. Logan's memory is flawed, as he has been brainwashed by Nick Fury. He can't really remember Weapon-X either. Wolverine was born around 1870. Little is known about his family and origins, all we know is that he was a native Canadian.
After the Second World War, Wolverine stayed in Japan, where he had a relationship with a woman named Itsu. Itsu becomes pregnant, but before the child is born, the Winter Soldier kills her. Believing that he has lost Itsu and the child, Wolverine leaves the village. It wasn't until decades later that he found out that Romulus saved his son, but raised him to be a bitter fighting machine. Wolverine's son is called Akihiro, but is only called Daken. He has the same abilities as his father, but with him only two claws sprout from the back of the hand and one more from each forearm.
After he was given his adamantium skeleton, Wolverine joined the Canadian superhero team Alpha Flight . However, in an attempt to kill Professor Charles Xavier , Logan was overwhelmed by his psi powers and induced to join the X-Men to rescue the original team from the clutches of the living island of Krakoa. Wolverine then resigned from the Canadian Army and remained a key member of the X-Men for many years. In the meantime, however, he has joined the Avengers newly founded by Captain America .
Over the course of his superhero career, Wolverine became drawn to several women: as a member of Alpha Flight to Heather Hudson, the wife of his friend and patron Mac (as Vindicator and Guardian, leader of Alpha Flight), and with the X-Men to Jean Gray ( Marvel Girl ) before meeting Mariko Yashida, who became his longest-running relationship. However, he had to kill her after she was fatally poisoned by her rival Matsu'o Tsurayaba and did not want to perish in agony. It was also suggested that he had a closer relationship with Squirrel Girl that didn't end well; this is now together with him - albeit more indirectly - part of the New Avengers team. However, he later rejoins the X-Men.
During his time with the X-Men, Logan became a protector, mentor, and at times even surrogate father to several young girls who had joined the X-Men. These were Shadowcat, Rogue, Jubilee, Armor, X-23 and Oya. Even the young Black Widow was one of Logan's protégés. This was introduced by the authors to emphasize Wolverine's soft core.
In addition to Sabertooth, Daken and Romulus, Logan made other enemies, such as the Russian super soldier Omega Red when he was working for a US special unit, and Lady Deathstrike, a Japanese cyborg warrior.
Another important character, X-23 alias Laura Kinney, comes from an attempt at cloning Wolverines from the Weapon X successor project and has similar skills. In contrast to him, she has two bone claws on each hand and one on each foot that she can retract and extend. As with Wolverine, these bone claws were later coated with the almost indestructible alloy adamantium . In the following years she went through a brutal training, at the end of which X-23 began to work as a hitman for the Weapon-X program , but also for the criminal Kingpin . As a kind of security, the X-23 has been programmed for a certain fragrance; if it is exposed to this, it runs amok and kills everything around it. After her escape and a fight with Wolverine, she joined the X-Men . Thanks to Logan and the X-Men, Laura was able to discover her humanity. After Logan's death, she succeeds him and becomes Wolverine herself.
The character of X-23 was originally designed for the X-Men: Evolution animated series, but its popularity led to its retroactive introduction to the mainstream comic series.
Comic book publications
Wolverine first appeared in October 1974 on the last page of the Marvel comic book Incredible Hulk # 180 and in the subsequent volume. Wolverine has been part of the X-Men since Giant-Size X-Men was first published in 1975 . From September to December 1982 appeared a four-part series entitled Wolverine , which was designed by Claremont and Frank Miller . This was followed by the six-part series Kitty Pryde and Wolverine , in which he appeared together with the character Kitty Pryde . From November 1988, another series appeared with Wolverine in the lead role, which reached 189 issues. The first author of the series was Claremont, the first draftsman John Buscema . In the 1990s, Wolverine appeared in some issues of Weapon X, among others .
In other media
Wolverine plays a central role in contemporary X-Men adaptations, be it animated television series , video games or the 20th Century Fox cinema series with nine parts so far, in which Australian actor Hugh Jackman has played this role. It starts with the original trilogy, consisting of X-Men (2000), X-Men 2 (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), followed by the prequels X-Men: First Decision (2011), X-Men: Future is Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), which tell the story of the X-Men and some of the primary antagonists, such as Magneto and Mystique.
From November 2007, a Wolverine offshoot of the series under the title X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Australia , New Zealand and the US city of New Orleans was directed by Gavin Hood . David Benioff wrote the script for it ; the film opened in international cinemas on May 1st, 2009. Jackman also embodies the character of Wolverine in this project. Liev Schreiber can be seen as Sabretooth . The film is also a prequel to the X-Men series and takes place two decades before the first part of the trilogy. In another film, which was released in Germany under the title Wolverine: Weg des Kriegers (2013), Jackman slips into the role of Wolverine again . Logan - The Wolverine followed in 2017 .
