Benedikt Doll was third on the home stretch for the second German team. He let himself be overtaken intentionally by Ole Einar Bjørndalen and Darja Domratschewa in order to give them a place on the podium at the award ceremony for their farewell ceremony. This gesture was widely viewed as an act of exemplary fairness.
