World Team Challenge 2016

The 15th World Team Challenge 2016 (officially: Joka Classic Biathlon World Team Challenge at Schalke 16 ) was a biathlon competition that took place on December 28, 2016 in the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen in front of around 42,000 spectators.

One of the two German teams won, namely the one with Simon Schempp and Vanessa Hinz .

Changes

In contrast to the previous year, when the entire route was revised, there were only a few changes to this World Team Challenge. The only notable change is that the tracks have been made a bit wider to make overtaking possible. In addition, a difficult corner has been eased a little to avoid falls.

procedure

From 2:45 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. there were two junior qualification super sprint races. At 3:20 p.m. there was the knockout round of the Snowball Fight World Championships in Winterdorf, before the decisive races in the super sprint took place at 4:00 p.m. The final of the Snowball Fight World Cup took place in the arena at 4:45 p.m. Daniel Böhm , who had ended his career, was bid farewell at the shoot-out, which took place at 5:10 p.m. Then there was the opening ceremony and afterwards the first race of the day, namely the mass start, ran from 6:15 p.m. After the first biathlon race of the day, the band FEUERHERZ performed in the Veltins-Arena before the decisive pursuit race from 7.30 p.m. After this race the award ceremony and closing ceremony were held.

Attendees

10 teams from nine countries competed, only Germany was represented with two teams. Canada made its debut in the World Team Challenge.
