The Vsetínské vrchy (German Wsetin Mountains ) are a mountain range of the West Beskids in the Czech Republic .

geography

It extends east of the city of Vsetín in Eastern Moravia between the valleys of Rožnovská Bečva and Vsetínská Bečva .

To the north and east, the Rosenauer Depression through which the Rožnovská Bečva flows up to the Makovský průsmyk ( Makov Pass ) on the border with Slovakia forms a natural border with the Moravian-Silesian Beskids . At the Makov Pass, the Vsetin Mountains meet with the Turzovská vrchovina and the Javorníky to the east . The valley of the Vsetínská Bečva separates the Wsetin Mountains in the south from the Javorníky, in the southwest from the Vizovice Mountains and in the west from the Hostein Mountains . In the north-west of the Beskydy foothills (Podbeskydská pahorkatina) and the Moravian Gate through which the Bečva flows .

The mountains have an area of ​​338 km² and are largely forested. The highest point is at 1024 m above sea level. M. Vysoká, not far from the Makov pass . Other peaks are the Soláň (861 m) and the Vsacký Cáb (824 m). On the Medůvka (608 m) there are two sandstone rock formations that are used for rock climbing. Other climbing areas are the Svantovítova skála on the Štípa (706 m) and the Valova skála on the Snož (662 m).

The Vsetin Mountains are divided into three sub-units, the Hornobečevská vrchovina, the Solaňský hřbet and the Valašskobystrická vrchovina.

The most important cities are Karolinka , Rožnov pod Radhoštěm , Valašské Meziříčí , Vsetín and Zubří .

The mountains are essentially drained by the two Bečvas and the Bystřička .
