Wyschenka ( Ukrainian Виженка ; Russian Виженка Wischenka , Romanian Vijnicioara , German until 1918 Wiżenka ) is a village in the west of the Ukrainian Chernivtsi Oblast with about 1300 inhabitants (2001).
In the first documentary mentioned in the 18th century Hutsul there are two wooden churches -Dorf: The listed Ioann-Sotschawskyj wooden church in Hutsul style from 1792 and the wooden St Nicholas Church from the 1920s.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the village was the destination of numerous prominent figures of Ukrainian culture. Among them Iwan Franko , Lesja Ukrajinka , Jurij Fedkowytsch , Olha Kobyljanska , Wassyl Stefanyk and Marko Tscheremschyna . Today the village is the center of green tourism in Bukovina and a tourist focus of the region.
Geographical location
The village is located in the Carpathian Forest in the Vyshenka Valley ( Виженка ), an approximately 16 km long right tributary of the Cheremosh, and since the end of December 2016 has been part of the administrative district of Vyshnytsia in the northwest of Vyshnytsia Raion . The community and district center Vyshnytsya is 6 km north and the Chernivtsi Oblast center 77 km east of Vyshenka.
The road to the 586.3 m high Nimtschytsch Pass runs through the village .
