Xaver Zembrod (born July 28, 1966 in Pfullendorf ) is a former German soccer player who now works as a coach .
Career as a footballer
Xaver Zembrod played in his youth at SC Pfullendorf. He moved to the Regionalliga Süd via TSV Ofterdingen , TSV Bodelshausen , SC Pfullendorf , VfR Mannheim and TSG Pfeddersheim . In this division, which was the third highest in German football at the time, he played 23 games for the Stuttgarter Kickers . He was also with the Stuttgarter Kickers in the final of the German Amateur Championship in 1995 , in which they were defeated by VfL Osnabrück 2-4 after extra time. After a year in Stuttgart, he stayed in the Regionalliga for two more seasons by moving to SV Darmstadt 98 .
The last stations of his active career as a player were SGK Heidelberg and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .
Xaver Zembrod was the captain of the German student national team , which won the bronze medal at the Universiade in Buffalo in the United States in 1993 .
Career as a coach
After Zembrod had already acted as a player- coach at his last club, FC Zuzenhausen, further positions as a coach followed; so he was initially responsible for the SGK Heidelberg . After this job, he mainly looked after the youngsters, so from the beginning of 2002 to April 2007 he was a full-time base coordinator for the North Baden area at the DFB . In addition, he also acted as an assistant coach for the U15, U16 and U17 national teams of the German Football Association. From 2004 he also worked as a BFV selection coach for the U14 and U15 of the Badischer Fußballverband .
From May 2007 to 2011 Zembrod moved to the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim junior academy as a coordinator in the performance area and at the same time coached various youth teams of the club.
At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, Zembrod took over the coaching position of Marcus Sorg in the second team of SC Freiburg . From January 2012 he was also the sporting director of the Freiburg football school.
From January 23, 2014 to April 20, 2015, Zembrod Tayfun Korkut assisted as assistant trainer at Hannover 96 . From June 15 to December 2016, he was again assisting Korkut as an assistant coach at 1. FC Kaiserslautern . From March 6, 2017 until the end of the 2016/17 season, he again assisted Korkut at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . At the end of the season he stayed with the coaching team under Heiko Herrlich and, after his dismissal, also with Peter Bosz . On August 26, 2020, his contract in Leverkusen was terminated, Zembrod immediately switched to league competitor RB Leipzig to work there under head coach Julian Nagelsmann as an assistant coach.
Private
Zembrod has a degree in sports science, sports medicine and education and is in possession of the soccer teacher license.
