Yüreğir is a district of the city of Adana and at the same time a district in the metropolitan province of Adana in Turkey . The district has existed since June 5, 1986 and is 23 m above sea level. Yüreğir is 835 km², before the reorganization of the province in 2008, the district was 1,443 km². The name comes from the Turkish tribe of Yüreğir , who founded the Ramazanoğulları dynasty here in the 14th century .
Worth seeing
In the east of the district are the ruins of the Byzantine - Little Armenian castle Gökvelioğlu Kalesi . In the village of Yakapınar are the ruins of the ancient Mopsuestia with a restored Roman bridge and a mosaic museum. 9 km south of it is the Armenian monastery Arqakaghni , built in 1122 , which was destroyed during the genocide of the Armenians from 1915.
