Yorkville (official name United City of Yorkville ) is a city and administrative seat of Kendall County in the northeast of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2000 Yorkville had 6,189 residents, the number of which had risen to 16,505 by the 2008 estimate. The city is located in the middle of the fastest growing regions of Illinois, Kendall County is the fourth fastest growing region in the entire United States.

Yorkville was founded by the first settlers in 1836. In 1841 Yorkville became the seat of administration for the newly formed Kendall County. In 1864 the new courthouse was inaugurated, which still dominates the silhouette of the city today, although a new building was moved in 1997.

Yorkville also benefited from the railroad in the 19th century. Around 1870 many factories were built along the tracks, some of which are still standing today.

Yorkville consisted of two cities with separate municipalities, separated by the Fox River : Bristol and Yorkville. In 1957 it was decided to unite the two cities and found the United City of Yorkville .

In the 2000 census, the population was 6,189. These were distributed over 2,220 households in 1,665 families. The population density was 339.3 / km². There were 2,291 buildings, which corresponds to a building density of 325.3 / km².

The population in 2000 was 96.99% white , 0.42% African American , 0.19% Native American , 0.39% Asian and 0.78% other. 1.23% stated that they descended from at least two of these groups. 2.94% of the population were Hispanics belonging to any of the above groups.

30.0% were under 18 years of age, 7.9% between 18 and 24, 33.6% between 25 and 44, 18.7% between 45 and 64 and 9.8% 65 and older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 women there were statistically 96.7 men, 91.8 among the over 18 year olds.

The median income per household was $ 60,391 and the median family income was $ 67,521. The average income for men was $ 49,120 and that for women was $ 30,977. The per capita income was $ 24,514. Around 0.4% of families and 1.4% of the total population had their income below the poverty line .
