history

Ever since the captain of the freighter USS Alexander , W. Morrison, first mentioned the mountain in writing in 1857, it was known in America and Europe under the name of Mount Morrison . During the Japanese rule of the island, which lasted from 1895 to 1945 , it was called Niitakayama ( Japanese d 高山 , English "new, high mountain") because it replaced Mount Fuji as the highest mountain in the Japanese Empire . With the words: " Climb Mount Niitaka ", Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku started the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 2, 1941 .

The first ascent took place on December 26, 1898 by the German explorer Karl Theodor Stöpel .

climate
