Yucca baccata subsp. vespertina (common name : "Mohave Datil Yucca") is a subspecies of the blue palm lily ( Yucca baccata ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

description

The solitary Yucca baccata subsp. vespertina is stemless or rarely forms a short stem, but forms dense clumps. The variable blue to green leaves are 0.5 to 1.5 meters long and form fibers on the leaf edges.

The short, upright or inclined to the side, branched, dense inflorescence that begins between the leaves is 0.3 to 0.6 meters high and barely protrudes beyond the leaves. The pendulous, elongated flowers are 6 to 12 cm long and 1 to 2 cm wide. The six bracts are white to cream-colored. The outer bracts are partly reddish to purple in color. In contrast to the subspecies baccata , the representative of the Yucca series Baccatae forms large, dense groups. The flowering period extends from April to July.

When dry, it is frost-hardy to minus 20 ° C. In the collection of Fritz Hochstätter in Mannheim , several 20-year-old specimens grow unprotected in the open air.
