The Yucca filamentosa ( Yucca filamentosa ) (English common name : Ferald's Yucca, Narrow Leaf Yucca) is a species of the genus of yucca ( Yucca ) in the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae).

The filamentous palm lily grows solitary and has no trunk or forms bushy groups. The typical fibers can be found on the edges of the leaves . They are green to blue-green and rough on the underside, 20 to 60 cm long and 2.5 to 3 cm wide.
The branched inflorescence that begins far above the leaves becomes 2 to 3 meters high. The pendulous, bell-shaped, white to cream-colored flowers are 4 to 8 cm long and 4 to 8 cm in diameter. The flowering period extends from June to July.
Occurrence and systematics
The filamentous palm lily ( Yucca filamentosa ) is closely related to the Yucca flaccida, which is located in the east of the USA in mountain regions of the Blue Ridges , Great Smoky Mountains , Appalachian Mountains and Pockono Mountains in sparse forests .
The filamentous palm lily is frost hardy to minus 15 ° C in Central Europe with protection in the winter months . However, they are hardy in Tim Behan's collection in Rhode Island. The real species is rare in collections. The garden forms known in Europe under the name Yucca filamentosa are without exception hybrids ; Examples are 'Atlanta' and 'Glockenbusch'.
The filamentous palm lily is common in the Atlantic coastal region in the states of Florida , Georgia , Virginia , North Carolina and South Carolina in plains in sandy soil, grassland and at the edges of forests at about sea level. This species often grows together with Yucca aloifolia and various types of cactus .
The first description by Carl von Linné under the name Yucca filamentosa was published in 1753.

- Yucca filamentosa subsp. filamentosa
- Yucca filamentosa subsp. smalliana (Fernald) Hochstätter . This subspecies is also called Yucca flaccida Haw by some authors . posed.
- Yucca filamentosa subsp. concava (Haw.) Hochstätter . This subspecies is also called Yucca flaccida Haw by some authors . posed.
This species belongs to the Chaenocarpa section in the Filamentosae series .
