The Yugo Florida was a car model of the former Yugoslav , now Serbian manufacturer Zastava . The hope of the entire Yugoslav automobile industry rested on this car model.

The Florida was developed as a complement to the three-door Yugo back in the 1980s and introduced to the public in 1986. The design of the five-door hatchback sedan comes from Giorgetto Giugiaro . The 3.93-meter-long body, which can be classified in the Golf class , has a trunk volume of 420 liters when the rear seat bench is up and 1280 liters when the rear bench is folded down.

Technically, the Florida was based on the T3 platform from Fiat . The vehicles exported to Germany were equipped with an old (but heavily modified) 1302 cm³ engine from Fiat, a multipoint injection ( EFI ) from Bosch according to Porsche design, and a regulated ( EURO-2 standard ) three- Way catalytic converter equipped. The engine has an output of 68 hp (50 kW).

The marketing success of this vehicle came to a sudden end because of the outbreak of war in former Yugoslavia in 1991 and the associated export sanctions .

Production of this model continued until 1999. In that year the NATO attacks on Serbia also hit the Zastava factory and almost completely destroyed it. After the production facilities were rebuilt, production started again with small numbers (mainly for the local market). In addition, was also back to Croatia , Macedonia and furthermore SKD - kits to Egypt exported. In the period before 1999, vehicles had already been imported into Poland , the Czech Republic and Greece as gray imports .

In some export countries the Florida was also sold as Yugo Sana or Yugo Miami . In the former Yugoslavia there was a pick-up and a panel van variant of the Florida. After 2000, the vehicle was also manufactured in Egypt by the El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company in Cairo as Nasr Florida . In the meantime, the Yugo Florida in Serbia has been renamed Zastava Florida In . Production stopped in 2008.
