Zbigniew Piątek

Zbigniew Piątek (born May 1, 1966 in Kielce ) is a former Polish cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

He had his first major success in 1987 when he won the Tour of Poland . In 1988 he won the Wyścig Dookoła Mazowsza Tour . He won the Małopolski Wyścig Górski stage race in 1989, 1998 and 2001. He finished the Tour of Poland seven times among the top ten drivers. He took part in the International Peace Tour eleven times, with his best result in 2001 and 2002 when he was fifth in the overall ranking.

He was a participant in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , where he was 55th in the road race . At the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney , he finished 48th in the road race .

He has participated in the UCI Road World Championships eleven times . In 1991 he was 22nd among the amateurs , in 2001 he was 16th among the professional drivers .

At the Polish championships, he won a total of eight titles: 1991, 1993 and 1997 in mountain driving, 1990 and 1992 in couple time trial (with Tomas Brożyna ), and 1997 with Artur Krasiński . In 1989 and 1992 he was the title holder in the team time trial . There were also eight silver medals and two bronze medals at the national championships in various disciplines.

Professional

In 2005 he became the sports director of the Intel Action Group and coach of a youth cycling team. From 2005–2008 he was a board member of the Polish Cycling Federation (PZKol). He also opened a bicycle shop in his hometown. He was also active as a local politician and temporarily held a mandate in the Polish parliament .

Zbigniew Piątek is the brother of Andrzej Piątek , who was a mountain bike trainer for the national team in Poland and also a cyclist.
