The men's road race at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona took place on August 2, 1992.
The favorites were the Dutch Erik Dekker and Lance Armstrong from the United States. A total of 154 athletes started, 84 of whom finished the race. A total of twelve laps of 16.2 kilometers each had to be completed on the Sant Sadurní Cycling Circuit , which resulted in a total distance of 194.4 kilometers. After the ninth lap a breakaway group of nine made an advance, to which Fabio Casartelli from Italy and Latvian Dainis Ozols were able to catch up 25 km from the finish . In the penultimate lap they separated from the main field together with Dekker. In the final sprint for gold, Casartelli finally won over Dekker, who won silver, and Ozols, who secured the bronze medal.
