Zdzisław Piernik

Zdzisław Piernik (born November 10, 1937 in Toruń ) is a Polish tuba player .

Piernik studied at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music . He has appeared as a soloist in hundreds of symphony and chamber concerts in Germany, Belgium, Austria, Holland, Great Britain, France, Portugal, Sweden, Japan, Mexico and the USA as well as at festivals such as Warsaw Autumn (since 1972) and the festivals in Witten (1977), Cologne (1977, 1979), Darmstadt and Los Angeles (1978), Bourges (1978), Stockholm (1979, 1981), Salzburg (1978, 1987), Lisbon (1982), Washington (1983) and Metz (1984). Since 1978 he has been the permanent representative of Poland to the International Tuba Euphonium Association .

From 1974 to 1978 he worked at the National Theater in Warsaw , from 1983 to 1988 at the National Theater in Łódź . His musical partners include improvisation musicians such as the double bass player Sławomir Janicki , the clarinetist Michał Górczyński and the guitarist Andrzej Izdebski . His repertoire includes his own transcriptions of compositions by classical composers as well as works by contemporary composers such as Marian Borkowski , Zbigniew Bargielski , January Fotek , Boguslaw Schaeffer , Andrzej Dobrowolski , Witold Szalonek , Andrzej Krzanowski , Krzysztof Penderecki , Marek Stachowski , Krzysztof Knittel , Wojciech Kilar , Marta Ptaszyńska , Andrzej Bieżan , Ryszard Klisowski , Benno Ammann , Fernando Grillo , Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and Elżbieta Sikora , some of whom composed pieces for him and dedicated them to him.
